About

Ian MacMillan made his debut in music at the age of 7 in piano recitals in his hometown of Fall River, Nova Scotia.

However, at the age of 11, after having lost interest in piano, he enrolled in the percussion program in school (thanks in part to being a fan of Animal from The Muppets) and started on the path to becoming a drummer.

It was shortly thereafter that he joined and competed with a local Scottish pipe & drum band for 14 years. It was during these years that he won many solo, drum corps, and band awards on the local & international scene, including North American Champions in 2000.

After playing for several years in pipe bands, Ian took interest in Cuban, West African, and Middle Eastern styles of drumming and studied these styles every chance he could get.

It was soon after this chapter of his life that opportunities started to present themself and he started appearing on albums, live concerts, and nationwide television specials.

With over 25 years of drumming experience and more than 20 years of teaching experience, Ian has taught drumming to individuals of all ages. Recorded on numerous albums. Toured & performed for thousands of people throughout Canada, the U.S., and Europe. Gathered numerous awards along the way.

He specializes in drum set, marching percussion, and several hand drumming styles from around the world.
